In the periodfrom July 2017 to July 2020, the people’s procuratorates at all levels in China handled over 170,000 cases regarding ecology and resource conservation, with 284,668hectares of land restored. The number of environmental cases accounts for 54.9% of the total number of public-interest litigation cases. 

The Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China has strengthened the management of environmental public interest litigation, putting forward the concept of "punitive damages" in environmental public interest litigation.
